The Mirador del Fito-north is a relatively short (7.5 km) climb from the Spanish north coast up to a col in the first hill range landinwards. We start at the bifurcation of the AS-260 and the local road to La Isla. For the first 3-4 kilometers, the slope is very variable with steep parts, often shorter than 500 meters and hence not well visible in the profile, alternated by easier parts. However, then the character of the climb changes. The slope gets large all the way up to the col with little variation in steepness (8-11%). Though most of the cycling takes place in the forests, there are quite some places with views on the ocean and the coastal area. The best ocean views are saved for a stretch ending with a bend to the left just before the col is reached. The true Mirador (Spanish for view point) is at a short walking distance from the col and also provides wide views on the mountains in the south, of which the Picos de Europa are the highest and most famous. We found the road rather busy with tourists heading for the viewpoint.
