This climb from the south, from Valdepeñas, to the Alto de la Pandera is a little easier (878 climb effort points or cep) than the climb from the north, from Los Villares (1015 cep). Since the last 8.5 kilometers of the two climbs are identical, the difference is due to the first part of the two ascents. Starting from Valdepeñas, only 255 meters in altitude are overcome until the point where the two rides merge, from Los Villares there are 582 meters in altitude. The first 4 kilometers from Valdepeñas take place on a wide street, offer a great view of the destination of the trip and are not really easy with a section of 2.5 kilometers with a slope of 8-9%. After the point where the climbs merge, at the turnoff from the A-6050, the climb makes much more fun than before the turnoff due to the narrow road and some steep passages. Three times the road gets very steep. Shortly after the turnoff there is a strip with a length of one kilometer that has a slope of 10%. After that, cycling is a little easier (2.5 kilometers of 5-8%). Next is the key section of the ascent, within which 246 meters in altitude are overcome over a distance of two kilometers, corresponding to an average gradient of 12.3%. This is followed by a relatively easy part (6-8%) and again a killing passage (250 meters of 13%). Finally, the road dives steeply downhill and then climbs up again. The asphalt ends at a closed gate about 30 meters below the summit. While riding the last few kilometers, the cyclist is rewarded with views in all directions. During clear atmospheric conditions the Sierra Nevada is visible .
