In itself the ascent from Livigno to the Forcola di Livigno is not hard but when the wind with all its strength tries to push one back to Livigno, then the trip is not that easy, as I have experienced myself. The start of the ride could have been at another place in Livigno but I chose a roundabout in the valley a bit south of the sub-village of San Rocco. During the first six and a half kilometers the road hardly slopes (up to 4%). Only when the valley and the road turn right, cycling becomes more difficult (5-6%). Two and a half kilometers further a turn to the left makes the road head south again. In and around this turn the steepest kilometer of the climb (7.7%) is found. The pass is located two kilometers further and marks the border between Italy and Switzerland.
