The climb to the Col de la Biche from the west consists of two parts with different characters. The first part from Artemare to Brénaz (12.5 km) takes place between the meadows of the Valromey, offers panoramic views, especially to the south, and is, with the exception of the first 4.5 kilometers ending at Champagne-en-Valromey (4-8%), easy with an average gradient of 4.0%. The second part (another 6 kilometers), which begins a few hundred meters after Brénaz, runs through the forest on a narrow, almost continuously steep road. So you have to pedal hard for a while with an average slope of 8.8% and a steepest kilometer of 11.8%. The ride ends at the pass, which offers no view at all. The big asset of this climb is the almost complete lack of motorized traffic.
