With an altitude of 1,993 meters, the Torre is the highest point of the Serra da Estrela and therefore of all of continental Portugal. A paved road leads to the summit. If you aspire to bike up to the highest mountain of different countries, then the Torre is a nice addition to your collection because it is, in Europe, the highest of this kind that can be reached on a racing bike, as far as I know. Unfortunately I didn't cycle up myself because I was ill, but luckily my wife was willing to go alone, measure the profile and take pictures. However, she was not rewarded by scenery and views since the mountain was mostly in the clouds. If the weather is clear, there are likely plenty of views because relatively few trees grow on the granite giant. The road is wide and relatively busy. The climb from Seia is quite a task, mainly thanks to the large number of meters in altitude (1773). This is more than the difference between the foot and the top (1583 meters) because the climb is interrupted by some descents. Of these, the descent (88 meters in altitude) ending in the village of Sabugueiro is the most important. Before this descent, 11 kilometers with a slope of 6.4%, on average, have already been completed. The hardest part of the climb comes just after Sabugueiro (4.5 kilometers at an average gradient of 8.7%). After that, there are still 13 kilometers left, which are largely quite easy (average 4.0%) but which are occasionally interrupted by steeper sections (two 250 meter strips at 10%). At the summit there is a tower (torre), whose top reaches 2000 meters.
