We have hardly seen any other racing bikers here. Apparently they already knew that the road is wide, the traffic busy, the pavement partly of poor quality, nature not impressive and that the ride is pretty boring in terms of slope (nearly 80% of the 500 meter intervals have a gradient of 7-9%). There are beautiful views to the north on mountain peaks but La Plagne is a typical example of a large French winter sports resort with big houses and apartment buildings, where tourists spend their holidays. This is not really nice in the otherwise barren landscape above the tree line. Is there no reason to make this climb? Yes there is a reason, namely the number of elevation meters, not less than 1495, at least if you follow the signs to Plagne Villages in la Plagne, keep left in Plagne Villages and continue cycling to the end of the asphalt. At the roundabout in la Plagne (after 1311 elevation meters and 1001 climb effort points or cep), one can instead of turning left towards Plagne Villages, continue straight on. The road then ends at the front door of Hotel Aime 2000 after a total of 1445 elevation meters and 1092 cep. Was this hotel the residence of Tom Dumoulin, when he was in la Plagne to train at altitude in preparation for the Tour of 2018?
