Le Tovet is one of the starting points
of the Nâves cross-country skiing area
(Domaine nordique de Nâves).
From Aigueblanche there are two
more or less parallel climbs, lying close together, to Le Tovet.
In my opinion, these are the most beautiful climbs
in the Moûtiers-Les Trois Vallées region.
During the ride there are nice views of the surrounding mountains
and ski lifts are missing.
The villages are hardly touristy,
the roads are quiet.
The two climbs merge at a fork in the road
at the altitude of 1397 meters,
to overcome
the remaining more than 150 meters in altitude via the same small road.
The north-west variant described here runs via Grand Cœur
and Grand Naves
and has the advantage of more shade than the northern variant.
After the first two easy kilometers (1-5%) from Aigueblanche
the road winds upward on a steep mountain slope
with numerous (18) hairpin bends.
The first three kilometers of this hairpin section
are the steepest of the entire ride (8-9%).
After that and over the remaining 11.5 kilometers
the gradient often measures 7%.
At the finish there are picnic tables and a bench
for those who have time to enjoy the view.
