This ascent to the Hochtannbergpass, starting from Steeg in the Lechtal, is much easier (319 climb effort points or cep) than the ascent from Schoppernau in the valley of the Bregenzerach (627 cep). There are fewer elevation meters to overcome (586 compared to 841) and the effective slope is less (5.4 by 7.5%). The steepest kilometer (8.7%) is found just before the pass. Over the 14 kilometers before that relatively steep end, the slope varies greatly but it is nowhere steeper than 7%. Nine kilometers after the start, the ascent is interrupted by a short descent, in which 31 elevation meters are lost. The road is wide and the asphalt pavement is of the highest quality (2021).
