The ascent from Imst to the Hahntennjoch is hard due to 1179 elevation meters and some fairly steep sections. The ride begins where the road from the highway towards Imst crosses the Pigerbach by means of a bridge. At the roundabout some 500 meters further on, take the road to the center of Imst and keep going straight within this small town. Then turn left at the point, where the road that has been rising gently so far, begins to lose height. Soon, still within the urban area of Imst, a very steep strip (250 meters with 13%) must be overcome. From here, the ascent is very varied in terms of the slope so between steep parts one can recover a little in easier passages. The hardest part are the two and a half kilometers, starting after two hairpin bends after more than eight kilometers of cycling. This part begins with a slope of 10% but ends with a kilometer of 12.1%. The next two kilometers are relatively easy (1-8%) but then come another two and a half kilometers where one has to pedal hard (10-11%). Steep, rugged limestone mountains surround the road in a deserted landscape. The only inhabited place is the Maldonalpe (with meals), two kilometers before the pass, which itself is indicated by a small sign only.
