This climb to the Puerto de las Palomas begins in the valley of the Río Guadalquivir, yes, the well-known river that flows through Seville and Cordoba, which here separates the Sierra de Cazorla from the Sierra de Segura. For the first four kilometers the road always runs through the forest, in a southwesterly direction. This part is moderately steep (5-7%). Then the road turns by almost 180 degrees, so the rest of the climb (another 3.3 kilometers) continues approximately in a north-north-east direction. Here it is a little less steep (5-6%) and on the right-hand side a wonderful view opens of the valley of the Guadalquivir, where the ascent began, and behind the valley of the Sierra de Segura. The highest point and therefore on this website the finish of the climb is located at a mirador (view point).
