This is a fairly long (15 kilometers), relatively easy (steepest kilometer 6.8%) climb. It starts at one of the exits from the A44, near the Puerto del Sospiro del Moro (Pass of the sigh of the Moor). In the year 1492 it was at this location that the last Moorish ruler on the Iberian Peninsula had a final look at Granada that he had just lost in the war against Spanish Christians. The first part of the ride ending at Venta del Fraile runs through an open landscape with mountains only at the horizon. It is striking that most land around the road is used as an orchard or for agriculture, even though villages are far away. After gaining some height, the snow-covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada become visible in the east, at least in early May. After Venta de Fraile, the landscape becomes more beautiful. The road that is narrower now is often surrounded by forests and meadows. From the pass, there is, in a south-westerly direction, a wide view of the Sierra Almijara.
