The climb from Pola de Lena to the Alto de Cobertoria is very steep, clearly steeper than one would expect in view of the road that is quite wide and busy. The first 2.5 kilometers are not too bad (maximum 9%) but the next 5 kilometers have an average slope of 11,5% and none of its 500 meter segments tilt less than 10%. For most cyclists it probably comes as a relief that the last two and a half kilometers are relatively easy (3-8%). More than a kilometer before the pass the road to the Gamoniteiro branches off, a monstrous ascent that was the final climb of a Vuelta stage in 2021. A large contribution to the toughness of the Gamoniteiro comes from its first half, which the Gamoniteiro shares with the Cobertoria that is described on this webpage.
