The Valsavarenche is a long, dead-end valley with high mountains on both sides and at the end. It could be beautiful, I thought, but I was disappointed. The valley runs almost straight, so the mountains on both sides are hardly noticeable. In addition, the snow-covered mountains that close off the valley come into sight only shortly before the end of the ride. The climb is not steep either. The difference in altitude between start and finish measures 1283 meters, which are spread over 26 kilometers, so the average gradient equals 4.9% only. Here and there are steeper passages. The steepest kilometer (8.9%) is situated about 4 kilometers before the finish. All in all, this climb is not very exciting. Other cyclists seem to think so too; I hardly encountered any. The quality of the asphalt is moderate, sometimes bad, especially in the last kilometers.
