The climb from Courmayeur through the Val Veny stands out because of the great views of the Mont Blanc massif. This massif lies perpendicular to the valley with the highway leading from Aosta to the Mont Blanc tunnel and therefore blocks easy progress in a north-westerly direction. At the foot of the massif two valleys open up; on the left the Val Veny runs to the south-west and on the right the Val Ferret runs to the north-east. The climb into the Val Veny starts at the end of Courmayeur. After crossing the stream follows a stretch of a little more than a kilometer at around 9%. Then, in the first of two hairpin bends, the road becomes much steeper. The next kilometer has an average gradient of 11.8%. In that kilometer one cycles past the Notre-Dame de Guérison. Near this church views are great with the Glacier de la Brenva as one of the eye-catchers. What a pity that the narrow road is that busy. After the steep passage and over the next 3.5 kilometers the road runs gently down- and uphill (from -2 to 4%), leading visitors into the valley. Then, cars are not allowed to proceed, so motorized traffic consists of buses only. The road becomes quite steep again (8-11%) and ends a kilometer further at a barrier near the Chalet Del Miage.
