In terms of natural beauty, the climb through the Val Ferret from Courmayeur belongs in the highest category. The ride offers sublime views of the Mont Blanc massif and the route leads through a beautiful valley thanks to the mountains and a lovely wide stream, which partly flows close to the road. It is a pity that there is quite a lot of traffic. The climb starts at the end of Courmayeur. After leaving this small town, the road quickly gets steeper. After crossing a stream, the following three kilometers have an average gradient of 9.6%. This is the steepest part of the ride, which is concluded on a cycle path lying far from the road. Be careful on its descent because of some cross-gullies. After this steep passage, there are almost 8 kilometres left to the end of the paved road. These are easy (average 2.6%) so one can enjoy the wonderful scenery. Halfway, at Lavachey, only cyclists and buses are allowed to continue on the narrow road.
