By itself the ascent from the Val Gardena (Grödner Tal in German) to the Passo Gardena (Grödner Joch in German) with 550 elevation meters is not so exciting but the climb is very popular because it forms, together with three other climbs, the Sellaronda. The ride begins on the southern side of Wolkenstein (Selva di Val Gardena in Italian), at the point where the road turns left after a long straight section. The first part of the climb has a fairly constant slope of about 8%. In this part the Sellaronda is reached at a junction, after three and a half kilometers cycling. From here to the pass still 268 elevation meters and 189 climb effort points are left. On the first two kilometers after the bifurcation, the slope continues to fluctuate around 8%. Then the road is nearly horizontal for one or two kilometers, a good opportunity to enjoy the mighty Dolomite massifs. On the last two kilometers, the road climbs again (up to 7%).
