The Col du Pré is a wonderful pass for cyclists. On the last eight kilometers from Arêches to the highest point there is little traffic on the narrow road. The true climber will enjoy the slope, which fluctuates around 10% during much of the ride after Arêches. The number of elevation meters (1013) of the whole climb just exceeds 1000 meters. The trip begins in Beaufort, a very suitable starting point for climbers because in this village and its immediate surroundings a total of five exciting and substantial ascents begin. The first five kilometers of the climb to the Col du Pré ending in Arêches are not that interesting (slope up to 8%). Of these five kilometers, the last one runs almost horizontally. Here one can mentally prepare for the hard work that follows after Arêches and has already been described above. The actual pass is located at 1703 meters. However, after the pass the road continues to rise. The finish of the ascent is reached 700 meters further ahead and 45 meters higher up.
