Over its first 8 kilometres the climb to the Col de l'Encrenaz from Taninges coincides with the climb to the Col de la Ramaz. At the start in Taninges take the D307, a narrow road with little traffic, and not the busy D902. The first 4 kilometres are moderately steep (4-9%) and are followed by 2.5 kilometres with gentle gradients (1-4%). After the turn-off to Les Gets comes the toughest section of the ride with a steepest kilometre of 11.0%. Here cycling is a bit boring because views are rare and the road is wide. However, the next section, after turning right towards Encrenaz, is scenically wonderful. The road that is narrow and quiet again runs alternately through forests and meadows against a backdrop of beautiful mountains. The gradients vary considerably (from -2 to 9%) but are nowhere very steep. A terrace awaits you at the pass height.
