Profile Col de Joux Plane-south

The Col de Joux Plane connects Morzine with Samoëns. The small road to the pass is a good example of the many quiet elevated crossings that make the French Alps so attractive to cyclists who like climbing. There is little traffic because the detour via a lower pass (Col de Gets) takes less time. Most motorized users of the road across the Joux Plane are tourists. The climb from Samoëns described here is harder than the climb from the other side. Starting from the center of Samoëns, take the Route de la Piaz. This road is steep (8-11%) and brings the cyclist to the junction with the D354 after a little over a kilometer. There you turn left and the easiest part of the ride begins, more than 4 kilometers long with a slope of mostly 7-8%. This part ends at the turnoff to Chantemerle. From there, still 6 kilometers are left to the pass. These are the toughest of the ride with a slope of mostly 8-10% and at its beginning the steepest 250 meter stretch of the entire ride (13%). The pass height itself is not really spectacular. Near it and not far from the road you may find an inn. Because the clouds were low when I cycled here, I can't say much about the views.
