The climb from Alcaraz to the Puerto del Barrancazo
can be divided into four parts.
In the first the wide road
becomes gradually steeper (maximum 8%)
until a kind of plateau is reached shortly after Vianos.
The next five kilometers
ending at a small pass (Collado del Tuertecillo)
run on a narrower street.
In my opinion this was the most scenic part of the ride,
thanks to the open landscape with rock formations and lots of flowers,
at least when we cycled here (in May).
Except for the last kilometer (5-7%),
the road is not steep at all in this part (1-4%).
The rest of the ride takes place in the forest
and offers hardly any view.
First there is a significant descent (120 meters in altitude).
The final part of the ascent is a moderately
steep (maximum 7%) climb of 260 meters in altitude.
