The ascent to the Jaufenpass (Passo di Giovo in Italian) from St. Leonard (San Leonardo) requires a considerable effort, mainly because of the large amount of elevation meters (1427). It will get even harder when you're not in good shape at all, like me when I biked here. Unfortunately, there was no help from the elevation profile that is simply boring. Except for six, all forty 500-meter intervals have a slope of 7 or 8%. Eleven hairpin bends and the long drive (from km 8 to 11) through the village of Walten (Vàltina) bring some variation. The mountains near the pass are not spectacular. However, the view into the Passeiertal (Val Passìria) during the first few kilometers of cycling is nice.
