For me the most attractive aspect of the climb from Guillestre to Risoul 1850 were the panoramic views in almost all directions, with the Écrins with its snow- and ice-covered mountains as the most striking eye-catcher. Unfortunately there are less scenic attractions in the direct vicinity of the wide, winding road. Risoul 1850, the destination of the ride, looks relatively good for a French winter sports resort but beautiful would certainly be too generous a compliment. A total of 984 meters of altitude are climbed on a road that is nowhere steep (the steepest kilometer slopes 8.4%). The first 9.5 kilometers are with an average of 5.3% slightly less steep than the remaining 6.4 kilometers (7.4%).
