Part of this climb leads through a long tunnel, not exactly the environment that I prefer for my trips, mainly because of the intimidating noise of cars and motorcycles. One can never be sure that drivers indeed see the cyclists. Fortunately, this tunnel is semi-open and on the tropically hot day when I rode here the tunnel also appeared to have an advantage. It was cool inside. The ride from Sölden to Rofen via Vent is not really hard with an average gradient of 3.9% and only 717 elevation meters. However, the latter are by no means evenly distributed over the distance. Steep and easy sections alternate. The steepest parts are the last kilometer before Heiligkreuz (9-10%) and the first kilometer after Vent (10-11%). The road is wide but after Vent it is narrow and only accessible to cars of residents and guests of the hotels in Rofen, of which there are apparently quite a few.
