The climb to Gries is a nice training ride with steep sections. It begins in Langenfeld at the intersection of the road to Gries with the main road running through the Ötztal. The first 2.5 km are steep (8-10%) and characterized by a large number (13) of hairpin turns, each with its proper noun, for example Winnebachkehre. The pavement is (in 2015) perfect. After the hairpin turns, hard and easy sections alternate. In the first flatter section one drives through a dimly lit, about five hundred meters long tunnel. The final kilometer before Gries offers great scenic beauty. Here you have a view, more or less in the extension of the valley, on the Schrankogel (3497 meters).
