Coming from the east the climb to the Puerto del Boyar is relatively easy. Heading from the Puerto de los Alamillos towards Grazalema, the climb starts when crossing the Rio Guadalete. Though at first the direction of cycling is away from Grazalema, the road then gradually turns towards this village lying on a steep slope with all its white houses. The village is beautiful and touristy. The ride towards the pass continues along the southern edge of the village. Just where one passes the campsite the steepest part of the climb (a 250-meter section of 10%) is found. The remaining part of the ascent, another two and a half kilometers, runs through the forest and is moderately steep (6-7%). The surroundings are very green here thanks to abundant precipitation. According to information boards along the road this is the wettest place of the Iberian Peninsula with an annual precipitation of 2200 mm (compared to approximately 600 mm in London).
