The ascent to the Puerto de las Palomas is much easier from the south side than from the spectacular north side. Heading from the Puerto de los Alamillos towards Grazalema, the climb starts when crossing the Rio Guadalete. Though at first the direction of cycling is away from Grazalema, the road then gradually turns towards this village lying on a steep slope with all its white houses. The village is beautiful and touristy. The ride towards the pass continues along the southern edge of the village. Just where one passes the campsite the steepest part of the climb (a 250-meter section of 10%) is found. One kilometer after the campsite, at a junction, the ride continues straight on towards Zahara. A three and a half kilometer long traverse follows, in which the remaining approximately 200 elevation meters are bridged. It is a beautiful section thanks to the rocks on the left and a wide view on the right side of the road.
